The scene was a lot more mellow today at the grand opening of New Vansterdam, Vancouver’s second recreational pot store to open this week.

About 35 people were lined up at 8 a.m. when the doors opened, and there wasn’t much fanfare outside.

Unleashed by Petco, the store next to the shop, handed out some coupons and dog cookies to folks waiting in line.

Briana Wittich of Camas and Matt Lewallen of Portland were the second official customers of the day. The first asked to remain anonymous.

The couple were also the first customers anywhere to buy product from Vancouver’s CannaMan Farms – our only licensed recreational grower thus far.

“I just recently started smoking,” Wittich said. “I have polycystic ovarian syndrome and I’m in a lot of pain. It’s harder than you’d think to get your medical card around here, so I’m really glad this is open.”

The couple bought 2 grams of the OG’s Pearl strain and 1 gram of CannaMan’s Godzilla strain.

Brian Stroh from CannaMan popped by a bit later and checked out the store. He said he was impressed by the streamlined setup.
