If you’re looking for a vaporizer that’s unlike the plethora of others available on the market then you need to consider the Hydrology9 from Cloudious9.

I was lucky enough to receive one to review and at first sight I was immediately intimidated by it’s beauty. Crafted using an anti-rust spacegrade aluminum alloy casing and borosilicate glass, the Hydrology9 gives off a sleek and futuristic vibe. This vaporizer unit looks delicate because of the glass, but feels sturdy when held, I’d still recommend handling it with care because it’s such a precious piece.

From top to bottom the Hydrology9 has  a magnetic cover, Borosilicate Glass Mouthpiece, Detachable Anti-Leak Top Cover, Body/Water Chamber (inside you’ll find the LED Light Indicator), Bottom Chamber Cover with built in stir tool during your session turn the knob to heat up your herb evenly. When you remove the bottom chamber cover inside you’ll find the heating chamber where you load your herb and the interior air duct which you can adjust with the air intake adjustment tool. At the base of the Hydrology you’ll find the power button to the left you’ll see the micro usb charging port and to the right of the power button you’ll find another air intake.

The Hydrology9 features a “Tunnel Tube” which is a built in patent pending water filtration system, this aides in a clean and smooth hit, lowering carcinogenic intakes and it cools down the vapor. Filling your Hydrology9 with water is easy, simply twist off the mouthpiece and anti-leak top cover then fill the top opening with water to your desired level, it is recommended that you don’t fill it past 70% of the chamber. When filled to the desired level just reattach the pieces you just removed. To load your unit with herb remove the bottom chamber cover and using your chamber loading/cleaning tool fill with your ground up herb, then reattach making sure it’s tightly secured. In my personal experience I like to load my unit with herb before filling it with water because you have to turn the unit upside down to do so.

To turn on your unit press the power button 3 times, to turn it off press it another 3 times. The LED indicator lights will flash green when on and red when off. When your unit is on a single press of the power button will cycle through the 5 temperature settings, when the LED indicator light is solid green that means it’s ready to use. The desired temperature will be maintained for 2 minutes (120 seconds), and will go into standby mode for 60 seconds, the LED indicator light will be blue when in standby mode. To exit standby mode press the power button once to go back to your desired temperature setting. As mentioned above there are 5 temperature settings and the LED indicator light will let you know what setting you’re at.

LED Light Color Indications:

Flashing Blue = heating towards 1st degree, which is also the lowest heat setting

Flashing Yellow = heating towards 2nd degree

Flashing Orange = heating towards 3rd degree

Flashing Purple = heating towards 4th degree

Flashing Red = heating towards 5th degree

Solid Green = ready for inhalation

One of my favorite features of the Hydrology9 are the LED light visual effects which are purely for your stoney entertainment. When your unit is powered on and not in use hold the power button for 3 seconds and you’ll be treated to two different light shows. The first is the LED light rotation mode and the other is a LED flashing mode. I think it’s awesome that they give you a light show after it gets you baked. The light show feature is purely unnecessary, but a fun feature to entertain you and your friends after a nice session. I’ll admit that after I first used the unit I was mesmerized by the light show in happy, stoney haze.

The Hydrology9 is a lot bigger than most handheld vaporizers, so it’ll be heavier too. It fits in most purses/handbags, so it is portable, but I wouldn’t dare take it with you on your outdoor excursions. I mostly seeing myself using this one indoors: in my office, a friends, or when my chunky butt is pasted to the couch. This is mostly because of how delicate it looks, I’d hate to drop or scratch this unit.

I did notice that my unit did leak some at the bottom of the water chamber, so you really have to play around with it to make sure the glass is secured tightly. (I took a tip from the Chill Bud, and so far no major leaks.) Even with the glass secure I always end up with the smallest amount of water in the bottom area where the heating chamber is located, it’s not a lot, so I usually just wipe it away with a towel.

The Hydrology9 has chip controlled temperature features, meaning that when you take a hit at the desired heat level, cold air will enter the chamber and lower the overall temperature of what you’re inhaling, when the chip senses the lower temperature it will quickly go back to the your desired temperature level. This was something I liked about the Hydrology9, with some vaporizers the longer you leave it on, the hotter your draws can get, with this chip and the addition to their patent pending even heat distribution and their water filtration system,  every draw you take off the Hydrology9 is always smooth and tasty. To ensure even heat distribution, make sure you turn the knob at the base of your unit, this controls the stir tool on the inside to mix around your herb making sure you’re burning it all evenly. It’s a nifty little tool, something I’ve yet to see on any other vape unit. With most units to do this you have to open up your heating chamber, but with this helpful tool you don’t need to do so.

As I mentioned above when using this vaporizer, you’re given the option to choose from 5 different temperature levels, with most vapes I always opt to use the lower to mid heat levels so I get a better flavor profile. I’ve used the Hydrology9 at the lowest (Blue), but found the Yellow and Orange temperatures gave me the best overall draw. You may want to choose your heat level based on how fine you grind your herb, or on how dry it might be because it’ll burn faster. I found the heat chamber to be adequate in size, I was able to get 4 or 5 draws before having to reload.

I sent an email over to the Cloudious team and found out that this product has been 2 years in the making. After exploring the market they realized there wasn’t anything like this on the market, ad boom you have the Hydrology9! There really isn’t anything like the Hydrology9 on the market which makes this piece unique. I’ve recently decided to take a break from my bong and have found that the Hydrology9 is the perfect replacement because it gets me just as ripped!
