Great piece in the Oregonian today about the High Times Cannabis Cup heading to Portland.

It’s nice to see the High Times Magazine competition move into new areas as legalization progresses.

Apparently the cup is coming to Portland in July 2015, after possession becomes legal in Oregon.

What I’d like to see in Washington, though, is a recreational cup for I-502 growers. And eventually the same thing in Oregon.

So far, these cups are mostly focused on medical cannabis, and legally it makes sense that they have been.

But the medical market is more narrow, since those using the product must be patients with a medical card.

And with legalization I think there’s a need for another event that would let recreational consumers know which growers are making the best products.

With the stigma around legal marijuana – and human resources departments statewide still clamping down on employees who may have consumed the drug – it’s been hard to find people willing to do strain reviews or talk about the products that are out there.
