S.W. Washington marijuana industry forms association

A commercial trade and advocacy association called the Lower Columbia Cannabis Association has been formed to serve businesses in Southwest Washington’s marijuana industry.

The organization says its mission is to “promote, preserve and protect the legal cannabis and hemp industries in Southwest Washington.” It says the legal industry is creating jobs and tax revenue; opening opportunities for women-owned businesses; working with law enforcement to eliminate the black market; working to restrict marijuana’s availability to minors; and supporting a safe and reliable delivery system for medical patients.

The association says it will monitor regulatory changes being considered by the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board.

Steve Madsen, an attorney in Cougar, is counsel for the new organization, which is in the process of developing a website and Facebook page.
